International Coastal Cleanup 2018 with Dow Vietnam, Coca Cola and AmCham Vietnam

Vietnam is known as one of the five countries which create greater amount of waste than any other countries all over the world, according to Ocean Conservancy organization. It is mentioned by Nicholas Mallos – the director Marine Debris Program, Ocean Conservancy that there is going to be one ton of plastic waste in every three tons of fish in the ocean in 2025 and this number goes along with potential consequences to the marine environment and people’s health.

Understanding the insights, Saturday morning on September 15th, 2018 in Vung Tau City, Coca Cola, Dow Vietnam, Amcham Vietnam and Keep Vietnam Clean and Green in collaboration with Vung Tau People’s Committee and Ba Ria – Vung Tau University will be hosting an event called International Coastal Clean-up Day 2018 to encourage individuals living and working in Vietnam to protect the ocean and all the living creatures in it.

Employees from Coca Cola and Dow Vietnam and students from Ba Ria – Vung Tau University are individuals who will be spreading messages of the event: “Protect the Ocean”, “Leave waste out of the ocean” and “Recycling is to help to create a better environment in Vietnam”.

2 hours in the morning, we have beach clean-up activities: Participants pick-up the trash in the coastal areas in Vung Tau City and spread messages of environmental and coastal protection: Participants picking up trash is an effective way to spread a message of protecting the marine environment in Vung Tau City. Also, a message of recycling to reduce plastic as well as other solid wastes is shown in the event. At last, we gather altogether to share and reflect about their thoughts and experience after clean-up.
